Where can you find a bargain these days? Specifically, where are the classic motorcycles being sold at fair, not inflated prices? The answer, it appears, is an auction that’s a bit out of the way. Off the radar, as the saying goes.

That’s what appears to have happened at the David Lay Auctioneers Antiques & Interiors sale that took place in Penzance, Cornwall on 20 July. Usually it’s items such as furniture, household and the like that go under the hammer here, but this time there were nine classic motorcycles from a collection.

Here are the results – definitely some bargains in there:

Lot 400 1928 Zenith 500cc JAP motorcycle. Sold for £6,200

Lot 401 1931 Ariel 500cc motorcycle. Sold for £6,000

Lot 402 1931 New Imperial 3.5hp Light Tourist Model 2 350cc motorcycle. Sold for £3,500

Lot 403 1936 Triumph 6/1 650cc twin-cylinder motorcycle. Sold for £9,000

Lot 404 1957 AJS 350cc motorcycle. Sold for £1,600

Lot 405 1966 Triumph 3TA 350cc twin-cylinder motorcycle. Sold for £2,400

Lot 406 BSA Bantam D1 125cc motorcycle. Sold for £1,650

Lot 407 Norton Model 18 500cc motorcycle, circa 1947. Sold for £4,700

Lot 408 1935 Triumph 6/1 650cc motorcycle. Sold for £8,200

And…

Lot 409 Hand-painted wall of death sign by Simeon Stafford. Sold for £180
